November | Why coaching might be worth considering

Do any of these conversations in your head sound familiar?

When thinking about it gets you nowhere - Coaching might be worth considering.

“I need to change something, but I don’t know what”

You know that feeling when every worry seems connected to another and you keep thinking through the same things like Groundhog day? Every decision feels tangled up with something else, leaving you wondering where on earth to start. It feels like a bowl of spaghetti in your head (and often your stomach too). It’s sapping your energy and happiness. You think if you pull one strand, it might all unravel, and that feels too scary. So you do nothing, except think about it all over again, yet make no decision. Staying still has stopped feeling comfortable, it’s getting more uncomfortable the longer you stay stuck.

This is where coaching can be a safe place to look at what is really going on, where together we'll identify the key strand, then support you to work through what is keeping you stuck thinking in stressful circles. The result is greater clarity, more confidence in your decisions, and practical next steps that feel manageable rather than overwhelming.

“I should be ….***”

(insert favourite phrases for making yourself feel unhappy)

  • More senior in work,

  • Paid more

  • Thinner

  • Fitter

  • More confident

  • Less selfish

  • Have more energy

  • Happier

It’s interesting how the last 2 are actually connected to all the other ‘shoulds’.

People “should” all over themselves without even realising why.

The big question here is - who’s voice is it originally ? Who told you, directly or indirectly through their general conversations that you should be eg a CEO or get straight A’s or have a six pack ?

Social media has its place in giving unrealistic comparisons and messages, but it only gets in on you when it finds a ‘hook’ - a vulnerability or trigger that you already have. It increases the volume of that mean voice in your head.

This is where it’s gets juicy in coaching, for when you learn to turn the volume down, you can start to notice what YOU really want and turn towards a life that doesn’t sap your energy and brings in more happiness.

“My job/career just isn’t working”

Sometimes your manager hasn’t told you clearly enough where you could improve because of HR processes or they struggle with giving feedback, so you’re left wondering why it’s not going smoothly/why you’re not getting that promotion. Or maybe you are looking for a new role but not getting interviews, or getting the interview but not the job.

Sometimes we're simply too close to the situation to see it clearly. We don't fully understand what an employer is looking for, or we're not yet able to articulate our own strengths and value confidently.

This is where adding in business mentoring to my coaching really packs a punch. As a CEO, I've spent years recruiting, managing and developing people, so I can often help you see what others aren't saying explicitly.

We can work on your CV, your interview skills, as well as most importantly, working out what really interests you, your values, what you want from your work, and what you want to bring to it.

“I don’t want/need therapy, but I need something”

Coaching isn't therapy. While therapy often focuses on deeply understanding and healing the past, coaching focuses on where you are now and how you'd like to move forward. It's a space to think, reflect, challenge old assumptions, and identify practical steps that move you towards the life you want. It can actually be enjoyable! It’s time for just you !

Imagine having a little more headspace. Waking up without immediately running through the same worries. Feeling clearer about what you want and trusting yourself to make decisions. Having more energy for the people, work and interests that matter to you. That's the difference people often notice when they stop going around in circles and start moving forward.

Try my ‘chemistry session’

If any of this resonates with you, I offer a free 30 minute ‘chemistry’ session to see if coaching with me is right for you. Sessions are warm, inquisitive, and practical — supporting you to move forward with confidence and clarity. I work with you in an integrated way, so that improvements flow seamlessly between your life and your work, regardless of which one you start with. There's no pressure and no obligation, just a chance to see what's possible.
